mem sticks: how to force sync mounts?

Feisty won't mount usb mem sticks, cards in card readers and such with sync, 
so if I copy 200 megs of mp3 over to my player the dialog stays a second and 
then claims to be finished, which of course isn't the case - buffers are full 
and waiting to be written.
Where would be the place to tell Feisty to mount certain devices with the sync 
option?
