The boot loader for PPC is yaboot (Yet Another BOOT loader) which
interfaces with the Open Firmware (PPC's nearest equivalent to the BIOS
of Intel boxes). The configuration file is /etc/yaboot.conf and the
command to put into effect changes is ybin (use -v to see what it's
doing). As my PPC machine is a 5-year-old G3 iBook I have no idea about
how SATA drives are handled. I'd suggest a few judicious searches on
yaboot and sata (and possibly Open Firmware) might find something
useful. You might find something useful on the Debian site under the
powerpc port.
