This might not apply as I am running Debian Etch on my Sun Ultra 60
file server but this is the way I set up my Samba shares. I have
Widows XP Home and Win2K (using Fat 32) computers on my home network.
 Everyone can see each other fine although Win XP has it's moments.

I have mostly static IP addresses.
----------------
smb.conf file reads:
[global]
     workgroup = rachea
     security = share
     server string = Samba Server

[samba share]
     path = /samba
     writable = yes
     guest ok = yes
------------------
I then set the permissions for the directory /samba as follows:

chmod 777 -R /samba
