hibernate works but suspend does not

Same here .. fresh install .. in fact, using encrypted root (per
wiki). Hibernate did not work initially because I did not have a swap
.. once I added swap, it started working. Still no luck on suspend.
Also, I manually edited my /etc/fstab back to /dev/sda5 (et.al) when I
did the encrypted root, because the lvm numbers somehow got scrambled
and the wrong partitions were getting mounted in the wrong places.
I notice a package called hibernate .. anyone tried it and have any
experience to report?
