Cannot access Adpept or Command Line

Last night before I turned in, I re-installed Automatix 2, and all 
appeared to be working well.  This morning all was well, but when I 
tried to do an Adept Update, my password would not appear as entered.  I 
thin tried to enter password as su but my password would not appear as 
typed.  I did restart the computer and was able to login normally.

Any guidance to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
