System notification sounds "gone"

Not everyone is an ecglish speaker by birth so no problems (neither am I
in fact).
As for rebooting etc - have not made any difference whatsoever. But I
can tell you that sometimes my audio device "go missing" on booting and
then only a reboot will help. But then no sound whatsoever can be heard
of course...
Something to do with my HDA device I suspect.
