System notification sounds "gone"

Well I have experienced your problem and I haven't solved it yet.
However, in my case, the system notifications go and come in the sense
that if they do not work if I reboot the system they probably work
again. So many times I reboot my system hoping that the system
notifications work again.
The only advice I can give to you is to check whether you have ALSA
selected in the "sound and multimedia" menu, in the control panel.
As soon as I selected ALSA in the "sound and multimedia" menu the system
notification started to work more frequently.
