Slow Log-in

Recently when  logging in to kubuntu I have found that it takes about a minute 
after the KDE desktop comes up for konqueror to read directories, and for 
apps like kmail and kopete to be able to access the wallet.  Previously 
opened apps (like firefox) will open during this time, as will kopete 
(unconnected) but not kontact.  I tried reverting to a 
recent .kde/share/config but to no avail.  Interestingly this doesn't happen 
with gnome -- I can open konqueror to read dirs immediately.

I've looked but can not find any log file in /var/log that has any pertinent 
data.  

I would love some help with this.
