The kubuntu annoyance

I guess what threw me off was that I wasn't the original poster, and never
characterized anything an annoyance.
The best way to explain why I sometimes use NeroLinux instead of k3b is that
k3b sometimes refuses to burn DVDs that Nero has no trouble with. On those
VIDEO_TS collections, k3b immediately complains that it cannot determine the
ISO size and quits.
Nero burns the same DVD without complaint or problem.
I have not isolated what it is about the DVDs that k3b has problems with. I
used to think it was 16:9 DVDs, but k3b burns some of them without problems.
I never use Nero for audio or data CDs. While Nero burns MP3 to AudioCD
(CDDA) out of the box, it won't burn flac without some esoteric
configuration. I found mp3 capability in k3b easy to enable.
