Has X changed? Screen Flicker Problems

I didn't see a reply to this thread (though I noticed you posted more
than once)... I have an old Mac running Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper LTS)
Xubuntu/Kubuntu/Ubuntu (right now using KDE more than Xfce).
IN ANY case... yes, there must have been an update to xorg sometime in
the last month because my screen resolution was askew after a reboot
last week. (Normally I go weeks without a reboot so I don't have any
idea when the update happened. I shut down due to anticipated
thunderstorms.)
Fortunately all was completely corrected by going to a virtual
terminal and using the command
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and accepting all the defaults. Now all is fine on mine. (If it hadn't
been, the reconfigure process saves any customized xorg.conf file with
a date so it's easy to restore.)
As for a change that would have affected booting from the CD, Maybe
you need to reset the parameter memory in your display -- maybe it's
hanging on to a less-than-optimal default setting.
