PATH Variable

Yes, can do that...What is not understood is where $PATH and other 
environment variables are set for both specific users and all users when 
logging on...have looked in /etc, the "." files in ~ and can't find in 
doc...as i recall in older unix environments there were  ".xxxrc" files 
where environment variable were set, type of shell determined etc...Is 
there an analog in Kubuntu?
