LCD Monitor recommendations

Well, a nickel just dropped. After a reboot, all is not well. I get the
light show in place of the boot sequence. Once we hit the login screen,
though, all is well until I log into my account. At that point, the screen
goes black with a report from the monitor that the signal is out of range.

On the other hand, I CAN sign into another account, so whatever is wonky is
in my account. How can I return my account to default video resolution if I
can't log into my account? Otherwise, where is the video resolution stored,
per account?

Many thanks in advance.
