boot problem after recent kernel update

This is a good suggestion. I had a similar problem with Kubuntu Hardy Heron
alpha 1.  I had to press ctrl-alt-F1 after the grub screen every time in
order to get it to boot.  I am not sure what the underlying problem is,
however.
