Kubuntu install went flawless and upon re-boot both OS's were listed on the
boot menu. Also no issues with my desktop xp/Kubuntu machine.
I suspect the op might of had a one off with his experience as out of all
the times i have formatted machines and re-installed there has been no
issue.
But for ease of use and to save worries i cant recommend using a virtual
machine to install a new OS in if its not required you install it on a
partition of its own. Packages like virtual box make the set up extremely
easy and are worth considering.
