These instructions are for GNOME users. If you are using the default
install of Kubuntu then you are using KDE. Synaptic doesn't come
installed by default on Kubuntu, but you can install it by yourself or
just Adept (a program like synaptic). It doesn't matter which one you
use although some people find Synaptic to be a little easier to use.
If you want to install synaptic, open a console session by pressing
ALT + F2, typing in "konsole" (w/o the quotes), and then hit enter.
When Konsole comes up, type in:
sudo apt-get install synaptic
Both synaptic and adept will be in your menu somewhere (the K at the
bottom left of the screen).
If you want a shortcut to run these programs, then press ALT + F2 and then type:
adept-manager (to run adept)
synaptic (to run synaptic)
** If any of these commands are wrong, I apologize. I don't have
access to my Kubuntu box to check right now.
