kde4 install conflict

I had previously installed one of the kde4 preview releases on feisty and 
attempted to upgrade to the new beta.  Adept reported a conflict, so I tried 
to remove the earlier kde4.  All of the kde4 packages were removed except for 
kde4base.  Attempting to remove it generates a dependency error.

kde4base requires kdelibs5, which isn't installed.  So why can't I remove 
kde4base?
