I recently had to replace my old hp 5650. I wound up with an hp D4160
which is found as a D4100 when I add the printer... (Which made sense
because there was a booklet in the box about my D4100 series printer)

I've now successfully added the printer to both edgy and fc6 on my pc &
also to edgy, mepis, & sabayon linux on my fairly new amd turion64 dual
processor laptop.

On the laptop all three linuxes installed the printer easily. It took
some fussing to get it installed on anything except windows on my
venerable p3 desktop. Had to fuss with the hplip & hpijs drivers.
the diff in the edgy installs is the laptop is new install and the p3
desktop was originally breezy which was upgraded to dapper then to edgy
via apt-get...

But in any case, now that it's been added to all the above listed linux
I noticed a problem with BOTH the edgy kubuntu installations.

With the exception of only the first time I try to print after
rebooting. print requests from edgy put my D4160 into some kind of error
state. (the power light flashes very fast) And I need to press the power
button on the printer as well as put the print request on hold, then
resume printing from the print manager before it starts printing.

It also appears that if the usb cable isn't connected when I start the
print job. and then I plug it in afterwards. the first job in the cue
will work. but the next has the above described problem.

it doesn't matter whether this is a print-test from kcontrol, hp-toolbox
or a real document from ooffice... the results are the same. And I note
that neither fc6 on the desktop nor either mepis nor sabayon on the
laptop have this problem when I print... (sigh I spend most my computer
time in kubuntu on the desktop where all my e-mail and newsgroups are
set up...)

Anybody have a clue what could be the problem??????
