Cannot connect to IRC servers/networks

Hi,
I was a frequent IRC user,  but recetly I found that I cannot connect.  
I receive this error:
 Python interface loaded
 Perl interface loaded
 Tcl plugin for XChat - Version 1.59
 Copyright 2002-2005 Daniel P. Stasinski
 http://www.scriptkitties.com/tclplugin/
 Tcl interface loaded
 xchat remote access loaded successfully!
 SysTray Integration Plugin Version 2.4.5 successfully loaded

 Successfully loaded settings from file.
* Looking up irc.freenode.net
* Connecting to chat.freenode.net (216.165.191.52) port 6667...

Last line stays there for ever, when using KDE.  I guess it responses 
with connection failed in GNOME.

Can some1 help please.
