You can also right-click and choose a few known spam mails and "Apply 
Filter/Classify as Spam". It seems to be working for me now, but I 
don't understand how it works yet.

I have Spam Assasin on my ISP's mail server, and I filter on the header 
name I gave my filter. That works nicely. About 80-90% of spam is sent  
to /dev/null on the server that way (after a few days just in case an 
important message was a wrongly caught).

A filter on the subject using a reg-ex was good for some recents mails:
Reg-ex: PH.*RMA and PH.*ACY. Simple but it works where the others 
failed.
