Choosing which soundcard to use at startup?

I have two soundcards in my system, and AMD soundcard that is built
into the motherboard, and a Creative Audigy card:
sudo lspci | grep audio
0000:00:07.5 Multimedia audio controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD]
AMD-8111 AC97 Audio (rev 03)
0000:03:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS
I use artsd and it all works pretty well, but there is one problem.
Every once in a while the device changes. When that happens I get no
sound from my speakers. I end up fiddling with the controls for a
while, then I just switch the jack at the back of my box from one plug
to the other and it works again.
How can I make artsd always use the audigy card? I can't find
anything that configures this. I wouldn't mind being able to
completely disable the AMD card, too. Currently, both sound modules
load which seems a waste.
Thanks,
Michael
