Straight from the bot(ubotu) on irc.freenode.net:

try this in konsole: 'sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg
--configure -a'

Have good backups, problems/issues/trouble is bound to happen doing the
upgrade to Edgy.
