Yes, removing /opt/firefox will work, in fact that's the official way to
remove firefox when you install it from mozilla.
You also want to make sure that the link to the firefox scrip in
/usr/bin is changed if it points to the one in /opt
Mine looks like this
$ ls -l /usr/bin/firefox
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2006-10-31 12:38 /usr/bin/firefox ->
../lib/firefox/firefox
Other than that, all should be well.
