thanks. This seems to be fairly detailed. I just thumbed through it and think 
that section "6.1 Setting up the default keyboard and the Compose key" is 
what I'm looking for. I don't have time to go through it in detail now. But 
at a first glance it doesn't seem to be related to scim/skim at all. It seems 
to be an X-feature.

I'll tend to it later and report if I can get it to work...
