automounts & screensavers

I recently found my screensaver never starts and when i plug removable
media in, like USB sticks they are no longer automounted.

I then got thinking what have i recently changed then I remembered I
had gone through this guide
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=89491
which shows you how to speed up your booting time by removing unused
services. I figure must have switched off the one which is responsible
for these two. Thing is I tried switched back on all (i think!) the
ones I switched off, but no good.

Any ideas?
