query on how to setup floppy, mp3 ployer and internet at ubuntu or kubuntu linux

i was able to set up my internet connection using the ff commands;
  >> ifconfig eth0 [ip-address-of-my-pc] netmask 255.255.255.0
  >> route add 0.0.0.0 gw [subnet gateway] metric 1
  >> route add [ip address of server to internet] gw [subnet gateway] metric 1
  however, i would like to know which file can this be directly written using a 
  text editor, or is this temporary only?
  
  i read a site about amarok and it has download for kubuntu 5.10. how about
  ubuntu 5.10, will this work?
