Thanks, found it! Thats the Kcontrol panel that I know and love- I was
familiar with it from Fedora. In any case, the Spell Check was set to
English - UTF-8 - Aspell. I don't see why it shouldn't work. I even
tried changing the settings, to Ispell and what not, but nothing
helped. Though, I was not shutting down KDE after each change. Must
KDE (or at least Kate) be shut down and restarted for the changed to
take effect?
