In Breezy, only if it's security related.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/breezy/base/linux-image-2.6.12-10-386

2.6.12-10 is the latest in Breezy.

How about just "apt-get upgrade"?

Do you have the "linux-386" package installed? It will always depend on
the latest kernel.

And if your computer is less than say 10 years old, you might consider
"linux-686" as it's optimized for Pentium Pro/Celeron/PII/PIII/PIV
processors.
