You know the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1 or something similar).

You have an Ethernet NIC in your computer.

You start kcontrol (you can start the whole thing in Administrator mode if
you hit Alt-F2 and type:

kdesu kcontrol

and enter your password at the prompt.

You go to Internet and Network and click on Network Settings.

You see an entry for eth0 - it shows as disabled.

Highlight it with a left click.

Click on Configure Interface.

The new window that opens should have the following selected:

(o) Automatic [dhcp]

( ) Manual

[x] Activate when the computer starts

Click OK.

Now click on Enable Interface.

This should work and connect you to the router and set up a route so you can
browse into the router.

I think you need to do the exact same thing. Make sure the wireless is set
to Automatic and DHCP, at least.
Plus you need to fill in the ESSID to be the same as on the router (which
may call it an SSID).

Web into the router to verify the ESSID and to make sure encryption is off
for now - want to get everything else working first.

Then try to enable it.
