How to rescue an LVM drive?

Dave,
on the link http://www.sistina.com/lvm/Pages/howto.html you can find more 
information.
If you are able to boot up to the command prompt you are able to type lvm
indside lvm are a lot of options for instance lvm dumpconfig (Dump active 
configuration)
of course there is lvm help; lvmremove; lvmrename; lvmcreate etc.
and last but not least lvs which displays info about the system volumes you 
have to tak ea look for your self if you got dusfar.
