This is right, I already discovered to get the auto mount working I need to to
do this (upgrade the system). But this is not the problem I'm having.... The
system can automount the device, and I access and read and write perfectly on
to the drive, it's just that opening files that are held on the drive through
a KDE application can often return the error that I can only select local
files. This is why I think the permissions isn't the problem.
This is the result of the command that was suggested to me:
sniff at kubuntu:~$ ls -l /dev/sda1
brw-r----- 1 root plugdev 8, 1 2006-03-03 08:07 /dev/sda1
Since this is a USB device there is no entry referring to it in fstab.
