KDE / CUPS printing problem

No joy. CUPS is running, but when I goto the KDE System Settings panel 
it just hangs, and eventually times out with a "not responding" dialog. 
Same thing if I try to print from an app. Reinstallation did not change 
anything.

It seems as though KDE and CUPS are not talking, something in that area 
perhaps?

Any other ideas to get CUPS working?
