how to disable media:/ feature?

Getting deeper into it, I found a zillion threads on the problem with
media:/ feature in the kubuntuforums.net and a major thread in
ubuntuforums.org:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=79204&highlight=media

None of the threads suggested a real solution, so I would still like to
know, if it is possible to disable the media:/ (or system:/media/ ) feature.

I would guess a problem like this would be on a priority list for KDE
3.5.1 bugfix release, which is to come soon, so perhaps I have just a
few days to wait for the solution. However, I am impatient to know, if
there is any progress on it...
