help with DNS/BIND/DHCPd

/etc/hosts is where IP's and hostnames go.

I hve never used DHCP so I don't know if it respects the hosts file or 
not.  The format is shown in the file,  eg

192.168.0.5       jose.happy.net	jose

The second name is an alias so you don't see the full hostname all the 
time.
