Yep, I've tried two or three times, and its gone.  Its interesting because I 
haven't tried to reinstall the synaptics drivers again, mainly because now 
everything is working.
However, I do still need to try out power management, which is what I think 
caused this in the first place.  I tried to suspend and it didn't.
