Installing kubuntu

Strange, I thought you couldn't have 3 and 4 - I've only ever seen
1,2,5,6,... where 2 is the extended partition that 5,6,... are created in.

You could try deleting hda3 and 4 and see if kubuntu can see the empty
space.
