on error KsCD becomes unkillable and causes umount to fail on shutdown...

I've noticed a problem lately with kscd that it sometimes locks up.
This only happens when I use the stop button or "s" shortcut.
About 9 out of 10 times it works properly, but the remaining 10% of the
time, the cd stops playing but the kscd panel locks up. When this
happens it's status info still says it's playing. When this happens I
can't kill the kscd process even when I run ksysguard with root
privileges. If I click on kscd's [X] close button I eventually get a
pop-up that says it's not responding and offers to kill the process with
a loss of any unsaved data. This will remove the panel from the desktop
but ksysguard still shows the process as existing...
At this point I can't restart kscd. That just creates killable processes
that never make it to the desktop. (there is always still one kscd
instance left that ksysguard can't kill)
If I then close the xserver (and return to run level 3) and then restart
x via startx, the unkillable instance is still there.
And I usually (not always) get a /dev/dsp error causing sounds to be
redirected to /dev/nul...
Note: in order to get the sound to work for non-root users I had to chmod
/dev/dsp on start up. <see snippage below>
If/when I shutdown, there is a screen message that says something about
umount failing. says something like "tmpfs busy" but it scrolls by to
fast for me to get an exact quote.
The next time I boot kubuntu it always claims it wasn't shutdown cleanly
and insists on running fsck. Which fixes errors and requests a reboot...
After the 2nd boot every thing is normal again. (till the next time kscd
locks up)
Does anyone know a likely cause for this??? Or better still a fix???
