Using LiveCD [dapper]

My installation seems to have a permanently hosed hal.  It creates a lot of 
problems and I will probably have to backup some directories and reinstall 
from scratch.  A real pain since I have been customizing for my wants and 
needs since Warty.

Anyway, for a temporary workaround, I wan to use my iPod with amarok, but its 
not working very well without hal.  Hal works when I boot from the live CD.  

What is the best way to get amarok on the Live CD to use my collection?  I 
think the mySQL database is in /dev/hda2/var/lib/mysql and the collection 
itself is in /dev/hde1
