Are you sure it's always sg0? Mine comes up sometimes as sg0 and sometimes
as sg1. By default the udev rule makes sg0 owned by cdrom but not any
other sg* devices. I thought I had a working rule that established which
sg device was associated with /dev/scd0 (which is also the cdrom), but
trying to do backups last night I found it had lost the group ownership
again.
When k3b says it can't open the device, click on the "Show debugging output"
button - it's usually pretty obvious there what the problem is.
