Mounting FAT32 partition: permissions

I don't have write access to my FAT32 partition as my user. How should it be mounted? (sudo or root works, of course)
The default entry in /etc/fstab did not work well. I had access to some folders and not others, but since it's FAT32 that shouldn't happen should it?
I then tried the line below, which gives the same results.
/etc/fstab:
/dev/hdc2 /media/new_data auto rw,user 0 0
Do, or can, I name my user in the mount command?
Marcus
