Help! CUPS in Kubuntu is driving me crazy

I wish it were that easy. That was the first thing I did. But I
promptly discovered that when I do that and then do "su", I'm in some
sort of outer ring of hell in which I can't edit anything because
somehow or other I don't have access to the display :-(

I was going to post another request for help on that issue soon, but I
didn't want to innundate the reflector with requests.
