Installing gcc

Did you try this:

Open terminal and type this: sudo apt-get install gcc;

Much of Linux's power is in the terminal.  There isn't a good graphical 
way to do much of anything, but then again... I am a rediculous 
power-user.

If you're the type that's looking for gcc though, you're going to need 
to be more terminal literate.  It just happens that I wrote a how-to 
about gcc if you're trying to write software.  Check out

It works in Konqueror, though not very well.  I'd suggest viewing it in 
Firefox (sudo apt-get install firefox)
