Zire 31 working with Dapper anyone ?

I just had to have my Zire 31 syncing with dapper - I use it for my timesheet 
& ordering parts. I spend 2 -3 weeks googling ....

The answer for me was to download a stock kernel 2.6.17.7, make oldconfig, 
tweak the .config a bit more & reboot.

Does it work ... yes 100% of the time :)

I use jpilot looking at /dev/pilot, I start jpilot - press the sync on my 
Zire31 which causes UDEV to create a /dev point - press jpilot sync button. 
It all works inc Avantgo.

Its not ideal - I dont get to use the kernel security updates, I have problems 
with 'guarddog' because of iptables and some new modules - BUT my zire syncs.
