Help with my first time in linux

Ok guys and gals,
    This is my first time in the linux pool. so far it installed into my
machine fine, but i am having trouble setting up my internet connection. My
home is on a wireless Lan, my other two machines are windows machines. I see
a lot of talk on the forums, but it all looks like ancient egyptian algebra.
Help. I have zero knowledge of Linux beyond the penguin. If this is the
wrong approach, sorry. but i am lost. Anybody looking to be a linux mentor
to a newb?
