Hello Nigel,

I'm not at home, but at work so I can't give you the quickest manner to do
this.  But here goes the idea I have.  in konsole:

sudo apt-get install synaptic

Load synaptic.  Search for openoffice.  Then mark it for uninstall.

That should do it.
