Always the problem with GUIs, it's quite hard to explain (especially when mine 
is in French ;-) What would be nice (but maybe it already exists) is a 
repository of snapshots of common (KDE) tools. There we could use the same 
(English) names as a unique reference, and we could also edit the pictures to 
add arrows...

Back to Ron's problem:
As a quick workaround, you can directly patch /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc. It must 
have a [Shutdown] section, and you only have to add the BootManager=Grub 
line, as shown below.

[Shutdown]
BootManager=Grub
HaltCmd=/sbin/halt
RebootCmd=/sbin/reboot

OK, I refered to 'systemsettings' but 'kcontrol' is more or less the same. So, 
in kcontrol, last item on the left is System Administration, sub is Login 
Manager. On the right, choose Shutdown tab and last item is Boot Manager: 
There you select Grub and you logout.
