I've written a howto some time ago, maybe that sheds some light on the issue, 
find it at: http://vizzzion.org/?id=acpi_sleep

klaptopdaemon *should* call a script, but older versions directly wrote 
to /proc/acpi, which broke suspend from klaptopdaemon since it doesn't give 
you the option to wrap some necessary actions around the sleep.
