Try amaroK. Not only rips (which I have used), but also has an
interface for uploading to the iPod (which I haven't tried). I think it
comes with the default kubuntu-desktop installation. Depending on your
needs and preferences, it is either an excellent "one stop" solution for
all of your media management needs, or overkill.
