I _do_ know what he's talking about, but he doesn't seem very interested in

1) Quote.  It really helps people to understand you.

2) Post URLS.  Nobody really wants to search for the bugs.  If you have the
number, you _must_ have either been sent a link or been ON that page - cut
& paste.  We don't even know which bug database (it's different for
ubuntu-supported packages (main/restricted) and MOTU-supported packages).

As far as I can see from the bug report, you ARE the only person who's
encountered the problem.  Yes, you said one other person has, but why
hasn't _he_ posted his problems?  In any case, if you are reporting a bug
(thank you - it IS important to post bugs), you need to report it against a
specific package.  It is not Ubuntu's fault if Runtime Revolution can't
play an AIF.  Since it can play it, but at the wrong speed, the problem
should be reported against Runtime Revolution,  However, this doesn't even
seem to be a Ubuntu package, so how can Ubuntu developers (or even MOTU)
fix it?  I think, you've reported the problem to the wrong place.

On top of that, you've also reported that it's a problem for rhythmbox. You
need to report that as a "wishlist" item against the rhythmbox package. 
The developer may, or may not, choose to add support for AIF files.

Your second bug is http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=19378. 
Clearly, yours will - if somebody takes the time to look at it - be closed
as a duplicate of 7159.  Since it's deemed an "upstream" problem, there's
little likelihood of it being fixed by Ubuntu developers.  However, I don't
know how much attention is paid to poorly described bugs against "UNKNOWN"
packages.

fwiw, k3b copies audio CDs to WAV files and converts to (at least) OGG and
MP3 without trouble, so, no, "WAV files are [not] a huge problem".   There
are no doubt any number of other fine ways to handle them - and probably at
least one good solution to your AIF problems.

Finally, we really do love to help here.  If you'd started this by saying
that "Runtime Revolution plays AIF files at double speed: has anyone had
success playing AIF files from another application?" and "how can I copy
WAV files from an audio CD?" you'd have got all the help you needed.
