Printer help needed

OK, I need help.
Trying to print using an older Epson Stylus Color 600 printer that has
worked well with Fedora and several other distributions of Linux.
Now I am running the latest Ubuntu and while it says it will print,
northing does print at all.  LSMOD gives: 
parport                33480  2 parport_pc,lp
and escputil gives nothing at all.
Don't know what else to try except a reinstall and have already done DAT
once for anode reason. 
I am very happy with the distro but I gotta be able to print!
Any help, advice, etc. greatly appreciated.
