Maybe some incompatible X-thingie then? 

You could try to reinstall the following candidates:

xlibmesa-gl
xlibmesa-dri
xserver-xorg
xlibs
xlibs-static-pic

(Use sudo apt-get install --reinstall $BLAH)

... just guessing. :-O
